Bibliometric metadata plays a key role in supporting research assessment and research management. The most commonly used bibliometric databases are of a proprietary nature, but over the past few years, there has been an important trend toward open alternatives to these proprietary data sources. In this talk, the speaker highlighted some of the key developments and reflected on the benefits of open bibliometric metadata, and future trends.

Nowadays Universities pay considerable attention to university rankings in their decision making. The speaker provided with a general landscape of university rankings and the role the Leiden Ranking plays in this landscape. She reflected on the importance of being aware of the limitations of university rankings and related caveats and proposed their use in a responsible manner.
