Presentation slides
An exploration by Professor Stephen Robertson of some of the things we had to learn and understand before the digital revolution of the mid-twentieth century could take off. In particular, our present notion of writing (text) as processable data, and some of the stages we have come through to reach that notion.
Professor Stephen Robertson spent most of his career as a researcher in information retrieval, in academia (UCL and City University) and industry (Microsoft Research).
The event took place over Zoom and was attended by 47 participants.
