Semantic media: a new paradigm for navigable content for the 21st century

The Semantic Media project is a network funded by the EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) that brings together researchers interested in the confluence of Semantic Web technologies with Content and Media technologies. Probably foremost among early adopters is the BBC, whose use of the Semantic Web goes back several years, and whose Olympics 2012 site was founded upon Semantic Web principles. The project places particular emphasis on the analysis of content, especially at the point of content creation - typically the recording or TV studio. The network has funding for small projects that follow these principles, with the aim of growing the spread of competence in these new technologies. This presentation will explore the opportunities in more detail, and describe some of the supported mini-projects.
